Explore Waccamaw Golf Trail for Best Myrtle Beach Golf!

For special Myrtle Beach golf packages, follow along the Historic Waccamaw River as you enjoy a great round or two of golf along the Waccamaw Golf Trail!

Waccamaw is a name long recognized in the Carolina Low Country. The Waccamaw River (perhaps better known as the Intracoastal Waterway in that area) flows from North Carolina to Winyah Bay, in Georgetown, South Carolina and now instead of old rice fields and former plantations, the river meanders past some of the finest Myrtle Beach and Pawleys Island Golf.

Wild life abounds along this river trail and you might sight an American Black Bear, a Pileated Woodpecker or two, Black Swallowtail Butterflies as well at other unusual flora and fauna. You’ll find outstanding restaurants, shops, fishing and crabbing and more attractions.

No need to travel all over the state like the RTJ golf trail in Alabama, these courses are close and convenient to each other. These golf courses are intrinsically interesting, following the hills and dales of former rice plantations. Golf awards are many among this group of golf courses. Golf Digest has issued “America’s Top 100 Public Courses to four of them. Willbrook is a favorite for the ladies and the list goes on.

Golf courses you will want to play again and again, just minutes from each. This is an unmatched golf experience? Driving distance is NOT a problem, which means convenience for you and your golf group.

Don’t miss TPC and Wachesaw Plantation East, as well as Gary Player’s Blackmoor at the north end of Waccamaw Golf Trail. Travel a few more minutes south and you’ll be the Litchfield area of Pawleys Island Mainland, play golf at Litchfield Golf Club, the Tradiiton, Willbrook or River Club for starters. Just a couple of miles past Litchfield you’ll find the Heritage, Caledonia and True Blue on the Old Kings Highway and on the Highway 17 Bypass you can play Pawleys Plantation and Founders Club.

What a golfing experience…you don’t find golf courses like these clustered together everyday no matter where you play!

Beautiful Caledonia Golf & Fish Club, has enviable views of the old rice fields from it’s club house and sometimes the comments from the porch that overlooks the 18thhole will hassle you, but never doubt you are playing one of “America’s 100 Greatest Public Golf Courses” as named by Golf Digest. It’s also considered one of the most beautiful courses in the area due to old plantings, a welcoming avenue of Oaks and other scenery. Waverly Plantation the grounds on which Caledonia was built was a working rice plantation up until about 1912. Doc Lachicotte & Wilson Springs, the founders of Caledonia can be spotted many times at the little “fish camp” just before you make the turn into the road leading to the clubhouse. True Blue, owned by the same developers gets ongoing Golf digest’s Awards and is “must play” when you go for Myrtle Beach golf.

We believe you’ll enjoy these golf courses more than most other courses you have played. Their proximinty adds to the fun. Don’t stop with two or three golf courses, play them all! These golf courses are a glimpse into an unhurried life with beautiful surroundings, try them if you want to experience true Southern hospitality.

Your Golf Ball Can Affect Your Scores

This topic is dear to my heart and I have discussed at great length with Amateur members at my golf club regarding the type of golf ball they are using. The answer is nearly always the same. They use different golf balls from day to day, even to the extent of swapping golf balls midround to a different manufacturer. This can have a detrimental effect on your handicap and your ability to produce consistent golf shots.

Allow me to explain further and imagine if you will – David has just hit his tee shot out of bounds on the sixteenth hole using a Top Flite XL, he then proceeds to use another golf ball this time it’s a Titleist ProV1 which he plays to the front of the green, he is now about 15 yards from the pin and takes his trusty 8 iron out and proceeds to chip the ball to the hole, it comes up about 4 yards short. He thought he had hit a perfect chip as his judgement is usually pretty good from that range; he misses the putt then carries on with his round of golf as if nothing untoward had happened

Before we go any further have a quick think about what just happened, can you spot the problem? I am sure most of you can.

When David switched golf balls to a ProV1 he created the problem with his next shot from the edge of the green. The top Flite XL would have jumped off the face of the club with his chip and probably have gone close to the hole saving him a shot, but because he changed to the softer ProV1 (which you need to hit firmer) his chip ended up short with the subsequent missed putt costing him a valuable stroke.

All golf balls can vary in the distance they travel, the spin they create and the control you have, that is why it is no good using a different golf ball on a regular basis, especially with putting where consistency is paramount. Feel is a very important factor in golf and should not be overlooked.

The simple fact is you should be consistent in your choice of golf ball all the time. That doesnt mean you shouldn’t try different Golf balls but you should get used to a Golf ball and not change them on a regular basis. Especially during the course of a round. Get used to the ball you use so you can be more consistent.  You may not believe this is something you should consider but i assure you this is a very, very, very important part of being consistent in your golf and lowering you scores. This is also one thing that every golfer can do.

Next time your out on the course check the golf balls you have in your golf bag and make sure the ones you take out onto the course with you are all the same type and make.

Above all else enjoy this great game of golf.
