The reasons for the push shot
If the pull shot was caused due to the clubface being in a closed position on impact with the ball, the push shot happens due to the clubface being open at the time of impact. Push shot is really another name for a delayed shot, something people do unconsciously. In fact, if you delay your shot for some seconds, you could end up hitting the ball at the wrong time and the wrong place. This results in the ball moving from the intended direction to the target line.
When the clubface hits the ball sooner than you expected, you will find the ball traveling in a direction not to the line of the target. Actually, this happens because the clubface is a touch too open on hitting the ball, which is not desirable.

They would first advise you would get about not hitting the push shot is to transfer your body weight to the left foot. Also make note to that you would need to rotate your body slightly. Now, a lot of people actually go for the jugular and move their body backwards and forwards, which should be avoided.
Now, you could pick up the club in your hand and try practicing this movement. Please note that it is important to position the buckle of your belt in line with the target when you finish with the stroke.
Be sure of having your right forearm slightly turned in position over the left. This will ensure that you bring the clubface down closefaced, and when you hit the ball with a closed face club, you more or less ensure that the ball moves in a straight line.
